If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years it’s that you can’t fool people. Particularly when it comes to the ultra-competitive world of consumer electronics.
So when Acoustic Research presented Signature with the opportunity to help them launch a new line of high-performance audio headphones to compete with Beats by Dr. Dre, we knew we had our work cut out for us.

The initial step was to create a name. A task made much easier once we tried out a pair of the headphones for ourselves. Right away it became apparent what made these different from the competition. Raw snare hits. Crackling handclaps. Deep, aggressive bass kicks. All delivered with balance, crystal clear clarity and uncompromising quality, comfort and convenience. More than simply a fashion statement, these were a statement on superior audio performance. One, to us, that was reminiscent of a time when something as simple as a turntable could create a textured and unmistakably gritty sound capable of turning the music industry on its head. When, what was good was decided on the street and not by judges on TV.

Back then, one of the tools of the trade for legendary DJs was the 808 drum machine–known particularly for the unmatched bass they provided. We thought, what better way to reflect the unbelievable sound produced by these headphones than to name them after the iconic piece of equipment that helped to inspire them? It was from this kernel of an idea that the hugely popular 808 line of headphones, earbuds and wireless speakers was born.
